Traditional Chinese Spring Festival

Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China. The passed 2011 Chinese New Yea starts in February 3 and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day of the first luner month. This year is the rabbit year according to China zodiac/ Chinese Calender. During the Festival, Chinese people go to visit friends and relatives and give New year greetings to each other. The lucky money will be given to children to bring them good luck.. Various cultural activities such as Fireworks, Dragon and Lion Dancing, paying New Year visits, pasting Spring Festival scrolls, the character 'Fu', paper-cuts pictures and other traditional performances will be held.


Chinese New Year is a time for families to be together. A reunion dinner is held on New Year's Eve. It's know to all that Chinese Cuisine play important role in daly life especially in Spring Festival. Since people attach high importance to the reunion dinner. There are several essentials have to included in the dinner.

Chinese Dumplings: Chinese Dumplings look like silver ingots. Legend has it that the more dumplings you eat during New Year celebration, more money you can make in the New Year.

Nian Gao (Glutinous Rice Cake): In Chinese, Nian Gao sounds like "getting higher year by year".

Spring Roll: Spring Roll which is nutritious and delicious, are eaten in Chinese New Year Celebration. So hence their name Spring Roll.

Fish, means that the achievement you get will be higher and higher one year by another.
